Restorative yoga is a format designed for individuals undergoing stress, fatigue, any illness related condition or just desiring to drop into a deep state of relaxation.  Restorative yoga is described as active relaxation. By supporting the body, utilizing props such as blocks, straps, bolsters, and even chairs the body is alternately stimulated and relaxed to move into balance.  The poses used create specific physiological responses which are beneficial to health and can reduce stress and disease.  This type of yoga is extremely nurturing and can be used by anyone.

Restorative yoga differs from other forms of yoga in that it focuses on energy conservation to free up more energy for healing.  It makes use of resting between poses to allow for greater body and breath awareness.  Finally, each class utilizes various relaxation techniques, following each practice.  At the heart of Restorative yoga is the art of non-doing, to allow the body to heal.

You can visit the Relax and Renew® Restorative Yoga Teacher website for more information.

What is Viniyoga?

Viniyoga is a Sanskrit term that implies differentiation, adaptation and appropriate application. As a style of yoga practice, the term Viniyoga refers to an approach to yoga that adapts the various means and methods of practice to the unique condition, needs and interests of the individual, giving each practitioner the tools to individualize and actualize the process of self-discovery and personal transformation. This yoga tradition is evolved out of the teachings transmitted by T. Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar or Madras, India.
