9th Annual Free Yoga in the Park – Highlands Ranch – Printable Schedule

The 2017 printable schedule for the 9th Annual Free Yoga in the Park is released.

This free to the community event hosted by NamasteWorks Yoga + Wellness and  in participation with the Highlands Ranch Metro Districts is released today with all the information you need to enlighten your Saturday mornings this spring and summer.  The volunteer instructors; Nancy Levenson, Jena Sawyer, Charmaine Stattman, Barbara Bloodgood, Kate Roberts, Renee Carrillo and Jess Bonasso have been listed for you to follow your favorite teacher or come out and explore the practices of each.  This year’s theme is “The Radiance of Yoga & Nature,” where each instructor will blend nature with mind/body yoga exploration.

Meet Free Yoga in the Park Instructor – Jess Bonasso

Jess Bonasso is new to NamasteWorks Free Yoga in the Park this year but, has been practicing yoga since the early 2000’s when chronic low back from scoliosis & degenerative disks led her on a quest for a holistic approach to health & healing that didn’t involve surgery. After leaving the corporate world to become a burnout recovery & prevention coach, she received her 200 HR yoga teacher certification from Samadhi Yoga Studio and thus began her new life as an entrepreneur & business owner!

Since 2007,  she has taught between 1-4 classes/week and even 10 years later still looks at the classes she teaches as a joyful hobby that allows her to teach & share her yoga with the world. She spends her days working with modern-day, high-reaching superwomen who are struggling to juggle it all re-ignite their radiance & set themselves free! And, if she’s not teaching yoga or working with a high-reaching super woman you can find her on a walk or hike in nature with her man & dogs, cooking for friends & loved ones, or soaking in a natural hot springs somewhere.

Meet Yoga in the Park Founder & Instructor – Nancy Levenson

Nancy is founder of NamasteWorks Yoga + Wellness, LLC, a premier provider of mind/body wellness services and NamasteWorks Outdoors.  Nancy’s mantra is helping others, especially women, find and reclaim their inner SPARKLE .   She is a certified yoga therapist  (C-IAYT), nature guide and modern day Sherpa.  Her areas of fascination and expertise, blends classical yoga, energy work, and mind/body therapy with nature, art, painting and wild women play,  in guiding clients to discover their own inner light and passion. If she could, she would sprinkle JOY in everyone’s life and remind them of their own true nature as a path to wholeness.

After her own nervous breakdown, she discovered her path to wellness was rooted in yoga, meditation, wilderness and nature work. Today, she calls herself an empath – highly sensitive to the valuable relationship we share with all living things, and the transformative healing qualities nature brings to self.  Nancy started Free Yoga in the Park nine years ago, guides women’s wilderness retreats and camping, hosts women’s programs all in an effort to help minimize stress, anxiety and depression and live to our fullest life.

Meet Free Yoga in the Park Instructor – Charmaine Stattman

Charmaine is a registered yoga teacher, massage therapist, and Reiki Master. She has been offering massage and therapeutic yoga services to the community for over 17 years and rolls out her mat with us as we open the 9th Season of Free Yoga in the Park Highlands Ranch.

Yoga, energy work and massage therapy has changed her life in so many ways, on both the giving and receiving end. She works closely with self-care practitioners, chiropractors and athletic sports trainers to increase awareness for herself and her clients. Her hobbies include yoga, meditation, hiking, biking, dancing, reading, coloring, laughing, enjoying time with friends and family, and loving her life!  Charmaine received her 200 HR Integrative Yoga Teacher training from NamasteWorks Yoga + Wellness .

Meet the Instructor – Jena Sawyer

Jena’s journey into yoga, meditation, and mindful movement started many years ago in pursuit of stress relief and a better night’s sleep. She has spent countless hours studying, exploring, learning, and cultivating practical applications and relatable perspectives. She loves to share these and is enthusiastic about helping others travel their own unique path to well-being.

Her passion is helping people create more ease… in their mind, body, relationships, work, and life. She urges them to start wherever they are rather waiting for the elusive someday.  Her “option-rich” classes center on breath and awareness, with suggestions for variations and encouragement of personal exploration in each posture.

Jena teaches classes for the Highlands Ranch Recreation Centers and also offers coaching, workshops, and retreats. Her self-published book, Yoga Thinking, offers tools and techniques to help modern-day yogis apply yoga’s wisdom to their everyday life.

Meet Free Yoga in the Park Instructor – Kate Roberts

If there was ever a survivor story that blended the benefits of yoga, it’s Kate Roberts story of meeting life again through her practice. She began her life-long love of Yoga after being severely injured in a 2000 car crash, and found that it helped her to find ‘balance’ (figuratively and literally) in her life as she recovered from her injuries and completed college.      Kate is a Certified Yoga Instructor and eared her 200-HR Integrative Yoga therapy certification from NamasteWorks Yoga + Wellness.  Kate earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Human and Health Performance—Health Promotion, and a Minor in Art from Montana State University Billings in 2010. She enjoys gardening, reading, arts and crafts, and walking, playing and pretty much doing everything with her dog Maggie.

Meet Free Yoga in the Park Instructor – Barbara Bloodgood

Barbara is a yoga guide that has endured her own hardships. A breast cancer survivor and a trained breast cancer yoga instructor, Barbara discovered the yoga world after experiencing her own step back from optimal health in 2002.

It was then that Barbara became committed to her own yoga journey. She loved being on the mat, it offered her the spirituality piece that she felt had been lacking for some time in her life and provided her an inward look at her own heart and soul. She then went on to complete two different 200HR training programs, one with Core Power Yoga and her most recent certification with Integrative Yoga Therapy through  NamasteWorks Yoga + Wellness of Highlands Ranch.  In addition to focusing on clients without perfect bodies, Barbara has also conducted yoga retreats and wellness classes in the community.

Don’t let her fool you, she is a firecracker…and you might hear her say the word “alignment”, “alignment”, “alignment”.

Meet Free Yoga in the Park Instructor – Renee Carrillo

Renee began practicing yoga as an alternative to fast-paced cardio activities and discovered along the way that yoga lessened the frequency of migraines and helped her make it through extremely stressful times as a caregiver. After experiencing the relaxation and complete peace that yoga helps achieve, Renee was inspired to share the benefits yoga has to offer. In 2011 she completed her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with a Therapeutic Focus taught by Nancy Levenson and certified through NamasteWorks Yoga + Wellness. Renee enjoys sharing yoga with children which inspired her to become Yoga Calm certified in 2012, combining traditional postures, breathwork and activities that promote mindfulness, bring awareness to self and community, and offer time for kids to experience tranquility. In 2014 she completed Adaptive Yoga training under the guidance of Matthew Sanford.

Renee is registered with Yoga Alliance and her volunteer efforts include the Wellness Initiative-Denver, Yoga in the Park-Highlands Ranch, assisting with Adaptive Yoga as well as guiding yoga practice for those affected by cancer, an opportunity for which she is very grateful.

A Colorado native, Renee has great respect for Mother Nature and loves incorporating that aspect into a shared practice, putting the mat aside and stepping onto the earth to further connect with the collective vibration. Renee’s classes blend breath with movement, along with weaving guided meditations and singing bowls to immerse oneself in stillness. She invites the experience of deep relaxation through Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra.

Renee’s passion is to create a yoga experience that people of all ages and abilities are able to explore, bringing about acceptance of the body, mind, and spirit allowing peace to be present within.

Centering in the Middle of Chaos – How Yoga Kept Me Sane

A client recently shared a story with me about her use of centering in the middle of chaos. She was undergoing a rather intricate surgery to her left eye. I had asked her if she was nervous at all, given my own fear of having anything resembling a blade placed near eyes. She indicated that she arrived at the facility that morning, only slightly concerned. She was placed in an individual treatment room prior to the surgery, and instructed to relax. She shared with me that she immediately began to draw inward, to find her center. Using breathing practices she had learned in  our yoga classes and a mudra to create clear focus, she began to put her mind at ease. After all, this would be a simple procedure, it was safe.

Shortly after this, two attendants walked into her room. She remained in a total state of stillness, breathing and centering when one of the attendants began to complain to the other, that one of the pre-exam tools was broken. The other then stated that he could not open the cabinet door, “it must be stuck, it’s not working.” As these two fumbled in her presence, her mind went from centering to chaos – “what else isn’t working in this place,” she wondered to herself. The two attendants continued on with their dialogue and she took a deep breath, and brought herself back to center…..breathe, follow the inhale, follow the exhale. She started to repeat a mantra in her mind to keep herself centered. Shortly thereafter, she was wheeled into the operating room, concerned. And, moments later she was completely out.

Her surgery went well and I found her story so profound. When engaged in centering we have to be aware that distractions will try and pull us out. Some may be as insignificant as another thought we are having and some so startling to move us away from center altogether. Only through practice do we learn to stay in the present moment, focused on our intention. I was very impressed by her will. Staying centered is hard enough, but it’s quite another story to stay centered in the middle of chaos.
