Blending Nature, Art and Yoga Therapy – Imagine That

Blending Nature, Art and Yoga Therapy – Imagine That

Nature, Art, and Yoga Therapy (NAYT) is an integrated wellness strategy designed to relieve the body of physical stress, the mind of negative and fearful thoughts, and strengthen the nervous and immune systems. Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), studies the effects of how the brain, nervous system, and the immune system impact each other.

A dysfunctional immune system is unable to protect the body and PNI studies on split brain research have found functional differences between the right and left sides of the brain.    According to author Barbara Ganim, in her book Art & Healing, split-brain research revealed that we think and process our experiences, feeling, and emotions as images first and words second.  This research validates that the body responds to an image of a thought first, and then associates words to describe the thought.  This leads us to understand that imagery offers a powerful method to releasing stored emotions and feelings of pain.  And, alternatively can be used to keep the body/mind healthy.

Today’s expressive arts of nature, art, yoga and body movement, dance, dreams, guided imagery, music, chanting, and sound, all integrate imagery as a powerful healing tool.

In nature therapy, we first experience the world through our eyes.  Every aspect of nature creates a sensory awareness infusing our nervous system with sight, sound, smell, touch and perhaps, taste.  It’s easy for us to recall a time we might have been walking through a wooded forest.  We can see the path, the trees and the undergrowth all around us.  We can tune into the sounds of wildlife, our breath and the movement of nature.  We breathe in the essence of the pines, the intensity of the air, and nature itself.  We have the ability to touch the earth with each step, feel the texture of the bark or the local foliage.  And, depending on our willingness, we can even delight in nature with our taste buds.

In art therapy, we explore these same senses but, also embrace our own emotions, fears, and desires.  We draw our inner world out through painting, sculpture or other forms of mixed media.  The imagery becomes an expressive tool for us to communicate deep feelings and use our own stories to heal body/mind and spirit.

Yoga therapy focuses on the path of yoga as a healing journey that brings balance to the body and mind.  Much like split-brain research, yoga therapy focuses on the balance of the left and right, the sun and moon, the feminine and masculine (HATHA Yoga) to integrate and support the wellness of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous symptoms and awaken our essential nature. Ultimately, combing nature, art and yoga therapy can lead us on a enchanted journey of body, mind and spirit.

What if you took just one day, to explore nature, art and yoga therapy?  We believe that you will awaken to a mystical experience, touching and celebrating your own divine spirit, strengthening your immune and nervous system and finding yourself stronger and healthier. We invite you to join us this upcoming Saturday, in our Glistening the Soul program – a snowshoeing day retreat for women.

We will blend nature, art and yoga as we begin our day with a welcoming ceremony outdoors. We will guide you on how to connect with the beauty and peace in nature through your five senses and support you as you develop your intention for your time snowshoeing. You will have the opportunity to bond through sharing with your fellow adventurers. We will then move to a time of introspective work. You will practice leaving your world behind and hone your nature skills and receive that which you need from your time outdoors. You will be sending a powerful message to your soul that you are ready to receive whatever wisdom, peace, or nurturing you are seeking. We will then stop for sharing and processing your time outdoors as well as lunch. We will then journey indoors to NamasteWorks Yoga studio to complete our time. You will have the opportunity to creatively express your experience through journaling, art and mind/body practices. Your day guides include Courtney O’Malley and Nancy Levenson.

Our full day program is only $89.  If this sounds like the transformation you seek, call Nancy at NamasteWorks Outdoors to reserve one of the remaining spaces in this program.  303.725.1434.

Glistening The Soul – Day Retreat & Snowshoeing for Women

Glistening The Soul – Day Retreat & Snowshoeing for Women

Event Date:  Saturday, February 25, 7:30 am-7:00 pm

Beautiful snow blankets our landscape in Colorado every winter.  The white covering changes the sights, sounds, and feel of being outdoors.  Step out of your every day and step into this magical scene. Be entranced with the icicle laden trees, or the way the sun reflects off the snow in all its glittering majesty, or the moist smell of pine as the sun warms the trees, listen to wisdom of the ice covered streams.  Pause for a day and experience what nature has to say to you. What wisdom can we gain from that which nature is trying to tell us? Whether you are experiencing a transition in life, need a sense of renewed strength or peace, this day is for you.

We will begin our day at the trail head (location dependent on weather) where we will have our welcoming ceremony. During this time we will guide you on how to connect with the beauty and peace in nature through your five senses. We will support you as you develop your intention for your time snowshoeing. You will have the opportunity to bond through sharing with your fellow adventurers. We will then move to a time of introspective work. You will practice leaving your world behind and hone your listening to nature skills and receive that which you need from your time outdoors. You will be sending a powerful message to your soul and the natural world around you that you are ready to receive whatever wisdom, peace, or nurturing you are seeking. We will then stop for a time for sharing and processing your time outdoors as well as lunch. We will then journey indoors to NamasteWorks Yoga studio to complete our time. You will have the opportunity to creatively express your experience through journaling, art and mind/body practices.

No experience is necessary; however, one should be able to do a moderate amount of hiking with some hill climbing.  Snowshoeing is not difficult, but it does require some ability for cardiovascular exercise.  We will end the day with a closing ceremony and invite you to return to the world refreshed and renewed. Your day guides include Courtney O’Malley and Nancy Levenson.

Cost for this one day program is $89.   Only ten spaces available.  To register simply call 303.725.1434.  We accept Visa/MC or check.

As women, we often put ourselves last, making sure that everyone around us is taken care of first, our families, our work, and our relationships.  But it leaves us depleted.  What if you took just one day, to refresh?  One day, to put yourself first? One day to say yes to you, and to invest in yourself?  To register, simply send us a message or call 303.725.1434.

NamasteWorks Outdoors makes it simple for you to meet yourself naturally.    Our nature-based programs are designed to help you uncover a deeper unity with self and nature through our full day retreats, camping excursions, and self-discovery multi-day retreats.

Day Hike + Painting in Nature with SoulSutras Adventures

Fall SS Event

Join us for our next SoulSutras program.  We will tread lightly into the great outdoors as we delve into deepening our awareness of self, through nature, meditation, and the arts. We will begin with a group introduction followed by a morning moderate hike of about 2.5 miles into Spruce Mountain, located in Larkspur, CO. We will explore the act of Divine Wandering as we gather fallen items in nature. At our meeting point, we will join in a community council allowing all of us an opportunity to share what is placed passionately upon our hearts. We will partake in meditation and be guided by Nancy Levenson in understanding the value of seeing with Divine eyes. We will then explore our own intimate perceptions through the act of painting in nature. After sharing our visions, we will venture back out of the trail in the opposite direction.

Each participant is asked to bring their own snacks and lunch. We will pair off for this day adventure in teams even though we will journey in silence. Participants should be prepared for micro climate changes as the day and altitude offer opportunities to experience both warmer and cooler moments. Once you have RSVP’d, you will receive a list of what to bring, where to meet and other details.

This day exploration is only $25/pp. All art supplies will be provided. You will be painting on canvas with acrylics. Those planning to participate can download our All The Juicy Details Sheet and The Health & Waiver Form.

RSVP by contacting Nancy at 303.725.1434 or filling out our contact form on the website.

SoulSutras Adventures in Nature

SoulSutras Adventures

It’s as easy as a day in nature…

Friday, July 22 or Saturday, July 23

Or Join Us for Both

IMG_7750Do you think it’s possible to reach a deeper understanding of your inner call by talking to a tree, or listening to a meadow? Accept this invitation to wander and discover the very essence of self through the gift of nature.  Our guided day adventures are designed to help you delight in the gentle progression of your inner landscape using the outer landscape as your medium.

The word Sutra (Sanskrit) translates as thread.  When we accept the invitation to follow the thread of our life we awaken the depth of our innermost self.   Most of us don’t have the practical tools necessary to answer the call of our inner voice, leaving us depleted and moving through life lacking inherent joy and happiness.  Nature becomes the conduit to unravel our soul’s thread.

We warmly invite you enter your sanctuary at our soul immersion day adventures.  You will be hosted by two guides, Nancy Levenson and Karin Dietrich.

We will wander in nature, right here in our lovely state.  While each day trip is completely different, you will discover aspects of self through yoga, meditation, wandering through nature, natural art, journaling, reflection, time alone and in community, poetry and more. Every adventure works to deepen your self-awareness and ultimately bring forth your true nature.  We will meet at our designated location at 8am and finish at 3pm.  All nature trips are within one hour of Denver and you should be in good physical shape for a slight climb.  More details will be sent once your register, along with a health and waiver form.

Cost of the program for one day is $29, or choose both days for only $59.  Pack your own lunch and snacks and bring water and sunscreen.  Space is limited, so act fast as these programs will sell out.   If you would like to join us for one of these days or both, RSVP – by calling 303.725.1434 or send us an email from the contact form on the site.    We do accept MC/Visa.

 About Your Guides

Nancy GuideNancy Levenson

Nancy’s mantra is helping others Discover Nature & Yoga as Healing Arts.  She is founder of NamasteWorks Yoga + Wellness and SoulSutras Adventures.   After a nervous breakdown, she discovered her path to wellness was rooted in yoga, meditation, wilderness and nature work.  She calls herself an empath, highly sensitive to the valuable relationship we share with all living things; and the transformative and healing qualities nature brings to self.  She guides “wanderings” in the great outdoors to help others explore their own soul contracts, wisdom and true self.  Her tools include everything from the physical body to poetry.  She believes JOY is our birthright.

Karin GuideKarin Dietrich

After a successful career in nutrition therapy and healing arts, a series of challenging life events forced Karin to take time out for herself to rebuild her own body, mind and spirit. In this transformative process she discovered the amazing Healing Power of Nature and reconnection with Life and Spirit through solo time in the outdoors and months-long travels in her camper van. Creating awareness and presence, being vs. doing, and connecting to the wisdom of Nature, Oneness and Life is what she now shares and enables others to experience through gently guided immersion workshops in nature.
