BLINK!

BLINK!

We are walking blinks. Most of the time we don’t notice anything from one blink to the other. We walk through our day unaware of those things that are happening all around us. We focus on other things, be it our to-do list, life’s difficulties, or life’s joys. When we live this way, we miss the simple yet profound life that is going on every moment. Flowers are in different stages of life and death, trees are reaching to new heights, bees are busy at work doing their part to contribute to life. And each of these seemingly ordinary moments are whispering to our soul. We may be out of focus with all of these things, but opportunities abound in the moment from one blink to another. The opportunity to capture moments of beauty, and increase our exposure in mind, body and soul. All in that simple and small moment between blinks.

When you open your eyes, what wonders are awaiting your attention? Can you stand in awe of the way the leaves dance in the wind? Or the way the flowers carefully open each petal when the sun warms its heart? Or notice without your eyes and listen to the instruments of nature. The way the leaves rustle with the slightest breeze, or the sound of crunching rocks beneath your feet, or the hymn of the crickets and the babble of the brook. These things all work to refresh our spirits. They have the power to touch the deepest parts of our soul and awaken our creative and inspired self. Nature is calling out to you. How do these things speak to your soul and awaken your magical self? Consider grabbing your camera and joining us to consciously notice the space between the blinks. Consider each click of the shutter a blink and record the beauty around you. See through the lens of your inner self and its connectedness to nature, the beauty all around you and feed your mind, body and soul.

During this four-hour program, you will develop a candid relationship with nature as you explore the beauty of the Highline Canal. With camera in tow, you will be guided to discover the great outdoors and capture the field of the natural world and how these images relate to your inner world of joy. This program includes a 3-mile round-trip hike to capture nature’s images, time for self-contemplation, a heart opening yoga practice, time with community and exploring nature in story and texture. After this morning experience, you will leave with greater vibrancy and intimacy with nature, self and a beautiful heartfelt smile.

“Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature, it will never fail you.” Frank Lloyd Wright

“Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature, it will never fail you.” Frank Lloyd Wright

I love Frank Lloyd Wright’s homes. They are inspiring; a harmonious marriage of architecture and nature. It’s the way I think homes were meant to be. Not obtrusive, but rather an extension of the beauty that already exists. Mr. Wright said, “Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature, it will never fail you.” It obviously never failed Mr. Wright. His work was inspired from the surroundings of the buildings for which he was designing. He believed that when design came from within, inspired by nature, all was in harmony. What lessons can we gain from this wisdom? If we “study nature, love nature, stay close…” to it and I would add look inside our own selves to our inner soul; we will never fail ourselves. May our inner light can shine forth adding to the beauty that already exists around us. May we fall in love with nature and be inspired daily by our surroundings. May that beauty fuel our creativity and ignite our spirit to radiance.

How can your inside inspire your outside and bring forth radiance? At the same time how can nature inspire and inform your inside? Come and spend a morning in this practice. Awaken your creative side, feed your inner soul with what it truly craves, and commune with nature.

“Fall in love with the back of your cereal box” – Jerry Seinfeld

“Fall in love with the back of your cereal box” – Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld has been making people laugh for years from his comedy show to his self-named television series. Although he is most known for his ability to make people burst into uncontrollable fits laughter, occasionally his antidotes make us pause and consider its deeper meaning. His quote, “Fall in love with the back of your cereal box”, is one of those. On the surface, we may shake our heads with a smile on our face and think, “what?” But, what if we lived our lives in such a way that when we looked at something we see every day, such as our cereal box, we actually noticed the details? So often, we hurry from one thing to another throughout our day without really noticing what is going on around us. We don’t take the time to pause and notice the many different shades of green on the new leaves, or the way the sun illuminates the blades of prairie grass putting on a tremendous show of light, or the free symphony performed by the birds. These things are going on around us all the time, but so often we are in such a hurry or are just too preoccupied with life to notice.

When we take the time to pause and notice the details we live into a more vibrant life. We are filling ourselves with beauty and the result is gratitude, creativity and radiance. Join us; take a few hours out of your busy life and invest in yourself. With your camera in tow, we will replenish your soul by taking the time to capture the details we see on the outside and relate it to the beauty on the inside. Pause, breathe in beauty, exhale stress, capture moments, be in awe of the details of world you live in and your amazing self.

The Call to Wildness

The Call to Wildness

The call to wildness is real and powerful. What would it take for us to listen and heed the call?  What gifts would be discovered? Could we receive healing? I love this poem for its power to remind me to seek the wildness of not only nature but of my inner self.

Axioms For Wildness

By:  John O’Donohue

Alive to the Thrill

Of the wild.

Meet the dawn

On a mountain.

Wash your face

In the morning dew.

Feel the favor of the earth.

Go out naked in the wind,

Your skin

Almost Aeolian.

With the music inside,

Dance like there is no outside.

Become subtle enough

To hear a tree breathe.

Sleep by the ocean,

Letting yourself unfurl

Like the reeds that swirl

Gradually on the sea floor.

Try to watch a painting from within:

How it holds what it never shows.

The mystery of your face,

Showing what you never see.

See your imagination dawn

Around the rim of your world.

Feel the seamless silk of the ocean

Womb you in ancient buoyancy.

Feel the wild imprint of surprise

When you are taken in by your lover’s eyes.

Succumb to warmth in the heart

Where divine fire glows.

If you want to discover your inner wildness or get back in touch with it, consider joining us on one of our nature-based day retreats, or camping excursions.  Your wellness is waiting. Visit http://namasteworksyoga.com/outdoors to learn more.

Are You Getting Enough Vitamin N?

Are You Getting Enough Vitamin N?

Maybe you are a person who has always loved nature and intuitively know that nature is good for your mind, body and overall wellness. But perhaps you are a person like the woman referenced in this article who has never really enjoyed and has purposely avoided nature. Or maybe you have lived your life just never spending much time in nature, through no reason at all, it just hasn’t happened. Whichever person you relate with most, the evidence seems to be mounting that nature is good for all of us. This article gives a great overview of the research showing that nature can be helpful and even healing with everything from depression to anxiety, to high blood pressure and stress. An Invitation to Try on Winter

An Invitation to Try on Winter

The colder temperatures in the winter months can be a deterrent for many to get outside. We complain, “it’s too cold, it’s too dark”.  We crave the comfort that inside offers us with cozy blankets, central heating, and comforting foods. Who doesn’t love to snuggle up with a blanket and a good book or a movie?  However, winter provides its own unique gifts.  The trails are not crowded and the sidewalks in our neighborhoods are calling for someone to walk on them. Many of the animals are hibernating, the birds have flown south, the leaves have fallen and in that we have the opportunity to notice the smaller details of nature.  The ice crystallizes on the bare branches and along pools of melted snow.  The few dried leaves that still ordain the trees sing their own unique song for us to hear. The cool of the air may make your nose run yes, but it also awakens our spirit to something greater.

I invite you to try out winter.  Say hello to nature in this magical time. If you need some inspiration try this experience. Make first tracks on a path the next time it snows.  At some point pause and look behind you at your steps.  These steps represent your past however long whether you want to focus on those steps as your past, your entire life, or how you are living in your current life.  How has your past served you?  How has it not served you?  Then stop and acknowledge that you can blaze a trail.  Next, look forward on the untouched landscape ahead of you representing your future.  What do you want that path to look like?  What could that look like if you could have anything you wanted?  Now notice where you are.  This is your present moment where neither your future nor your past can touch you.  In this moment it you just you.  If you are longing to embark on a nourishing adventure outdoors, then we invite you to join us on upcoming Glistening The Soul – Day Retreat & Snowshoeing for Women.
